Empower Lab 2020 Graduates
Shirley Eng
Shirley has been a member of the lab since September 2018 and currently serves as an Associate Director of Research; she works on the Male Intimate Partner Violence (IPV), Dating, and Empower Clinic teams. She just completed her Bachelor’s in Sociology with honors at New York University. Shirley plans to take a gap year while she applies to medical school, and is hoping to find a job doing clinical research related to women’s health. We thank Shirley for all she has done for the lab throughout the past two years!
Mirella Torresan
Mirella is graduating with a Bachelor of Arts from the Gallatin School of Individualized Study at NYU with a concentration in Health, Environment, and Reproduction. She joined the lab in June 2018, and now serves as an Associate Director of Research. She is the Team Leader of the Male IPV study, and additionally works with the Dating and Telomeres, Epigenetics & Trauma (TET) teams. Mirella is still determining her post graduation plans, but she hopes to work in public health, women’s health, and/or climate and sustainability. Congratulations Mirella!
Katie Thompson
Katie joined the lab in September of 2019 as a Research Assistant on the TET, Sugar Dating, and Healthcare Access teams. She is graduating from New York University with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. Katie will be taking a gap year to apply to medical school, and is pursuing work as a medical scribe or in another position involving clinical experience. We thank Katie for all her important contributions to the lab’s research over the past year!
Irene Jun
Irene is graduating from NYU with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Psychology. She joined the lab in June 2019 as a Research Assistant, and works on the Sugar Dating Project and the EMPOWER Clinic Team. Post graduation, Irene is applying to full-time research positions related to mental health or public health research. We wish Irene luck on her future endeavors!
Hayley Herzog
Hayley has been part of the lab since June 2019, and serves as a Research Assistant on the Dating, Advocacy, and Healthcare Access teams. She is graduating from New York University with a Bachelor of Science in Social Work and Global Public Health. Hayley is continuing her education at NYU with a dual MPH/MPA program. Here’s to her success!
Mathilde Hainaut
Mathilde joined the lab in September 2019 as a Research Assistant. She is the Team Leader for the Healthcare Access Scoping Review team, and also works with the Dating Study team. Mathilde recently started a dual MD/MPH program at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, and is hoping to continue clinical and public health research on Gender-Based Violence and Women’s Health during her time there. Thank you for everything Mathilde!
